The 2022 closed club championships took place over 3 evenings on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th April for the singles, handicap singles and the early stages of the hard bat competition.
The singles championship had 16 contenders competing in 4 groups of 4 based on recent ratings with the top 8 seeded players including in order of ranking Colin Dalgleish, Alicja Czarnomska, Dariusz Szymczak, Steve Collins, Woijcieck Wziatek, Joseph Tur, Jamie Toner and Calum Stephen.
All 8 got through to the second round where again results were according to predictions with Colin, Woijcieck, Dariusz and Alicja going through having beaten Jamie, Joseph, Steve and Calum respectively. In the semi finals Colin beat Woijcieck and Dariusz beat Alicja to set up a final between Colin and Dariusz.
The final was a great match with Dariusz catching out Colin with some of his serving and Colin displaying a fearsome topspin backhand down the line on numerous occasions. A new club champion in Colin Dalgleish.
The bottom 8 trying to upset the odds stacked against them in order of recent rankings were Keith MacKay, Bob Lander, Tommy Hamill, Tommy Toner, Kevin Boyle, Neil Webb, Aidan Kerr and Martin Rumsey.
The Consolation cup competition kicked in at this point which culminated in a match between Keith MacKay and his opponent ( the most improved player over this season having helped his team in the league to promotion, played 4 important matches for WL III helping them avoid relegation, and just this week help the remaining team in the handicap cup through to the final) Tommy Hamill.
Unfortunately for Tommy, Keith was just too strong on the night.
