WL 5 Defeated in tough away match

West Lothian 5 DEFEATED IN TOUGH AWAY MATCH

West Lothian’s team 5, comprising Martin, Mei and Jim found themselves on the end of a tough 7-3 defeat away to a Murrayfield XI team comprising talented youngsters Max Well and Angus Halliday, supported by veteran Douglas Kinloch.

After an earlier season draw, WL5 had hoped to apply some pressure to the team sitting directly above them in the league with the victors pretty much assured of promotion.

However, young Max and Angus have both improved considerably since the 2 teams met earlier in the season and all 3 WL players struggled to get near either of them. With Max playing with a pimpled bat and young Angus now possessing a forehand smash that belies his young age, both young players easily won all of their singles matches.

Martin, Mei and Jim did all have the small consolation of winning their individual singles games against Douglas, but with Martin and Mei being well beaten in the doubles as well, it was a tough night all round.

However, Team Captain and WL Club Chairman Martin Rumsey was effusive in his praise for both youngsters at the end of an enjoyable evening of table tennis and he marvelled at the continued improvement of the 2 young Murrayfield players who will surely move rapidly up the leagues.
