Edinburgh League Season Gets Underway

Premier Table tennis division

The past week saw the start of the ELTTL league and West Lothian have multiple teams across all divisions.

Team 1 in the Premier Division started with what looked like a tough away match to Haddington 1.

The team, comprising Alicja, Dariusz and David however all had good nights at the table running out eventual 9-1 winners.

Alicja got off to a perfect start with a solid win in 4 sets against Haddington’s Pete Lugton. Dariusz started strongly going 2 up in his first match before being pegged back to 2-2. However, he’s not known for giving in and played a solid 5th end winning it 11-3 to prevail in a 5 set match.  David followed up with a strong win in 3 sets against Russel Frith.

After that, the team never looked back and ran out comfortable winners in the end to get their season off to a good start.

In Division 2, WL Team III also had a tough away match to Corstorphine 2.

Our team comprising Keith, Andrew and Dave were up against Douglas, James and Sashi.

A strong start saw Dave and Andrew winning comfortably against Douglas and James respectively, before Keith lost out in a tight 5 set match against Corstorphine new boy Sashi.

Sadly, after that it was all downhill with WL III losing most of the remaining games, including the doubles, before Andrew restored a little bit of pride by winning his final game 3-1.

A sore 7-3 reverse sees WL III hoping for better things to come in next weeks match at home to North Merchiston.
